Complete magnetic control over the superconducting thermoelectric effect

نویسندگان

چکیده

Giant thermoelectric effects are known to arise at the interface between superconductors and strongly polarized ferromagnets, enabling construction of efficient generators. We predict that thermopower such a generator can be completely controlled by magnetic input signal: Not only toggled on off rotating magnet, but it even entirely reversed. This in situ control diverges from conventional thermoelectrics, where is usually fixed device design.

Spin Seebeck effect and thermoelectric phenomena in superconducting hybrids with magnetic textures or spin-orbit coupling

We theoretically consider the spin Seebeck effect, the charge Seebeck coefficient, and the thermoelectric figure of merit in superconducting hybrid structures including either magnetic textures or intrinsic spin-orbit coupling. We demonstrate that large magnitudes for all these quantities are obtainable in Josephson-based systems with either zero or a small externally applied magnetic field. Th...

Microwave control of the superconducting proximity effect and minigap in magnetic and normal metals

We demonstrate theoretically that microwave radiation applied to superconducting proximity structures controls the minigap and other spectral features in the density of states of normal and magnetic metals, respectively. Considering both a bilayer and Josephson junction geometry, we show that microwaves with frequency ω qualitatively alters the spectral properties of the system: inducing a seri...

Effect of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage on Automatic Generation Control Considering Governor Deadband and Boiler Dynamics

A comprehensive digital computer model of the two-area interconnected power system including the governor deadband non-linearity, steam reheat constraints and the boiler dynamics is developed. The improvement in AGC with the addition of a small capacity Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) unit is studied. Time domain simulations are used to study the performance of the power system a...

Heterogeneous Magnetic Superconducting Systems

Heterogeneous magnetic superconducting systems (HMSS) represent a new class of nanostructures. They are made of ferromagnetic (FM) and superconducting (SC) pieces separated by thin layers of insulating oxides. In contrast to the case of a homogeneous ferromagnetic superconductor studied during the last two decades, the two order parameters, the magnetization and the SC electron density do not s...
